 Argus for DOS Compatibility Issues

Note: the information on this page is in reference to Argus' software product "Argus for DOS", which works in conjunction with the Argus Classic CL100 Controller System, and its interoperability issues with Windows Vista, Microsoft's new operating system.

Argus first released its Argus for DOS program to work with Microsoft's MS-DOS software.  After the release of MS-DOS, Microsoft released subsequent versions of its operating system, in the form of Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME.  These three successors to MS-DOS, were built upon an MS-DOS foundation, and thus were able to run Argus DOS.  However, with the release of Windows 2000, Microsoft started building their operating systems based on what they called 'NT' , and not MS-DOS.  This meant that users would be unable to run Argus DOS on Windows 2000.  The later operating systems, which are the ones that permeate the market today, Windows XP and Windows Vista, are also built on this NT foundation.  This means that users of Argus DOS will unfortunately not be able to run it on Windows Vista. 

While we wish that the Argus DOS operator program was compatible with Windows Vista, the fact of the matter is that Microsoft released MS-DOS in 1981, over 25 years ago, and since then, it has become greatly outdated.  If you are considering updating to Windows Vista and still wish to be able to communicate with your CL100 Controller System, we recommend updating to our newer version of Argus software.  For more information about the upgrade options and pricing, please contact our sales department via email at argus@arguscontrols.com or call toll-free at 1-800-667-2090.
